OIL SHIRODHARA

The Royal Treatment

Shirodhara is an ancient form of a rejuvenation therapy in which medicated oil with therapeutic properties is rhythmically poured over forehead from a specific height and for a specific period of time. The therapeutic oil runs through the scalp and into the hair that induces a state that is neither consciousness nor sleep. It is a blissful state which calms the mind.

Shirodhara is derived from words “Shir” and “Dhara”. While Shir means head, Dhara means to pour. Shirodhara is an effective stress buster therapy that deeply relaxes the nervous system, calms the mind, facilitates better brain function and lowers metabolism.

The word ‘abhyanga’ is composed of two Sanskrit words, abhi and anga. Abhi means ‘towards’ and anga, in one of its meanings, refers to ‘movement’.

Abhyanga massage or abhyanga means a whole body massage in the ancient tradition of Ayurveda. This is performed by one or two therapists using warm medicated oil. Type of oil will be subjected to clients body type. Moving their hands synchronously all over the body including the vital points fol­lowed by a medicated steam. The oils are medicated with herbs and and specially formulated with a blissful aroma, Often used warm oil. The oil nourishes the skin and mobilizes deeper tissues. Abhyanga massage refreshes and revitalizes the body.
